Say No To Racism

Jun 5, 2020

George Floyd

You may have seen or read in the news or online that people in America and around the world are angry and sad. They are feeling this way because of racism. In today’s blog I’m going to take the time to help you learn what racism is and why at Beckfoot Heaton Primary School and in this world we say NO to racism!

Watch the videos with your siblings, read the texts with your family and remember that your voice could help change the world for the better. We are a community which means we look after one another.

Remember you are a Great Person!

Read this article from Newsround. It tells you all about what has prompted this discussion and sadness in America and around the world about racism.

What is Racism?

Racism is where someone thinks you’re inferior (less important) because of your colour, ethnicity, nationality or race. This can result in them treating you differently or unfairly, this is called racial discrimination

Racial bullying is a type of racism where someone’s bullying focuses on your race, ethnicity or culture. Racism and racial bullying are wrong and you can get help to make it stop.

This video explains what racism is and why it is wrong.

Change Starts with US

We all know books are magical! They help transport you to new places and adventures. However, for many people it’s hard to find somebody in books that looks just like them.

This video is about an amazing book called “I am Enough” by Grace Byers and illustrated by Keturah A. Bobo.

I hope you all know that you are enough! You can choose to use your voice to lift other people up, to shower the world with kindness, to remove hate from this world and replace it with positivity. You have that power. Change begins with you. With us. All of us.

My challenge to you is to create something to say no to racism. This could be: a song, poem, piece of art, dance, anything you like! Use your voice today and continue to use it every day. You can change the world one small step at a time!

Send all your amazing videos, pictures or work to our school email: and your work will be featured on this blog next week, our school Facebook page and our school Twitter page.

You can always tag us on Facebook and Twitter.
