Captain Tom

Finally, we wanted to share this piece of news from the Beckfoot Trust.

We are humbled by the efforts of Captain Tom who is walking 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS and to coincide with his 100th birthday.

Tom was born and brought up in Keighley, Yorkshire. He went to Keighley Grammar School, now Beckfoot Oakbank School and later completed an apprenticeship as a Civil Engineer. Tom went onto be enlisted in 8 DWR (145 RAC) at the beginning of the war, and in 1940 was selected for Officer training. He was later posted to 9DWR in India, and served and fought on the Arakan, went to Regiment to Sumatra after the Japanese surrender and returned to be an Instructor at Armoured Fighting Vehicle School in Bovington.

You can watch Tom complete his final 10 laps here

We are proud to be supporting Captain Tom and the NHS with money raised by our school community. £1568 has been donated, £1 for each student at Beckfoot Oakbank School.

Should you wish to donate you can do so here.

Captain Tom, you are an inspiration and all at Beckfoot Trust wish you a very happy 100th birthday.

That’s all for today, see you tomorrow!
